Yes, foreign residents with a valid residence permit can adopt pets in Italy. Some facilities require at least 6 months of residence. SaluteInsieme assists in all bureaucratic procedures and provides support in 10 languages.
Most Italian kennels and shelters ask for a contribution to expenses (usually €50–200) to cover part of the costs for microchip, vaccines, anti-parasite treatment and basic medical care received in the facility.
The assessment includes: general clinical examination, microchip check, up-to-date vaccinations, complete deworming, flea/tick anti-parasite treatment, FIV/FeLV test for cats.
